the comparison between unilateral and bilateral movement training on upper limb function in hemiplegic patients

چکیده
background: bilateral activities are novel methods which are used for refreshing hemiplegic patients. but there are a lot of controversies regarding their efficiency. the aim of this study is to compare the effects of unilateral with bilateral arm training on upper arm function in patients with hemiplegic disorders. methods: in a clinical trial 23 hemiplegic patients were selected for the study using available sampling procedure. then they were divided into two groups of unilateral (12) and bilateral (11) employing random assignment. the treatment included 8 weeks and each week consisted of three one-hour sessions. it also included 10 designed exercises based on function improvement periods in brunnstrom´s stages of function recovery which were designed according to day life of patient. patients were assessed using (fmumfa) pre and post intervention test. results: both groups had significant improvements on the upper limb function (p=0.001, p<0.05), but no significant differences were found in improvement of the upper limb functions between unilateral and bilateral training groups. conclusion: although both unilateral and bilateral movement training interventions were effective in upper limb function, bilateral training had no more effective function compared with unilateral training.

The effects of bilateral movement training on upper limb function in chronic stroke patients
[Purpose] This study compared the functional and kinematic changes associated with two rehabilitation protocols: bilateral and unilateral movement training. [Subjects and Methods] Twenty-five patients with chronic stroke were randomly assigned to two training protocols for four weeks of training. Each training session consisted of three tasks. The tasks were performed with either the impaired a...
متن کاملUnilateral versus bilateral upper limb training after stroke: the Upper Limb Training After Stroke clinical trial.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Unilateral and bilateral training protocols for upper limb rehabilitation after stroke represent conceptually contrasting approaches with the same ultimate goal. In a randomized controlled trial, we compared the merits of modified constraint-induced movement therapy, modified bilateral arm training with rhythmic auditory cueing, and a dose-matched conventional treatment. ...
متن کاملEffects of two-handed task training on upper limb function of chronic hemiplegic patients after stroke
[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to determine whether two-handed task training is effective on motor learning of injured cerebral cortex activation and upper extremity function recovery after stroke. [Subjects and Methods] Two hemiplegic subjects participated in this study: one patient was affected on the dominant side of the body and the other was affected on the non-dominant side of th...
متن کاملUnilateral and bilateral upper-limb training interventions after stroke have similar effects on bimanual coupling strength.
BACKGROUND Bilateral training in poststroke upper-limb rehabilitation is based on the premise that simultaneous movements of the nonparetic upper limb facilitate performance and recovery of paretic upper-limb function through neural coupling effects. OBJECTIVE To determine whether the degree of coupling between both hands is higher after bilateral than after unilateral training and control tr...

Objectives: Stroke, is one of the major causes of disability in adults. So, the patient may prefer to use the non-involved limb to perfom selfcare & named this phenomen learned non used. Constraint induced therapy is one of the rehabilitative interventions that can be effective in restoration of the function of the involved limb in some hemiparetic post stroke patients. purpose of this study wa...
